This week in class, we read chapter 6 from the textbook Essentials of Social Media Marketing by Michelle Charello. The chapter talks about the social media platform X, which used to be called Twitter. According to Charello, X is a “social microblogging platform where users share messages called posts up to 25,000 characters.” Twitter started back in 2006, and the idea came from Jack Dorsey. He wanted to create a way for people to send short messages and keep up with what their friends were doing every day. Almost 20 years later, Elon Musk bought Twitter for $44 billion. Since then, there have been some big changes and problems. Musk made some statements that caused a lot of controversy. Because of this, many advertisers left the platform. Advertisers are important because they pay to show ads on social media, which helps the platform make money.
