Not Just a Needle and Thread!

This week in my blog, I decided to talk about something that I really enjoy and am passionate about doing. That hobby being quilting I recently got into quilting over the past two years after watching my grandmother excel in the quilting industry. I enjoyed watching her create, not only just a blanket, but a work of art.

Quilting is so much more than just a needle and thread. It’s planning it’s designing and most importantly it’s precision quilting involves a lot of effort that’s not just put in with a sewing machine. The process of quilting goes as follows. You have to find a design that you would like to create or come up with your own. Have to cut out all the fabric which can take a few hours on its own and next you have to piece everything together ironing between every piece. There’s something really therapeutic about doing it though it’s one of those mindless activities that you can do for hours on end without having to think of any real life stressors.

Recently, I’ve been in the process of finishing a quilt that I started this winter. I hope to get it done before the Fourth of July and I’ve inserted a picture of what it is by now you’ve probably seen it. It’s a Fourth of July inspired quilt. It’s taking me about four hours to do so far but I’ve really enjoyed this process.

As I’m nearing the end of this process, I’m really enjoying, honoring my grandmother by using her fabrics and completing my first full-size quilt.

I think everyone should pick up a crafty hobby, even if it’s something simple like painting, it can be advanced into something extravagant.

  2. This is so sweet! I love how much meaning you’ve put into this quilt, especially using your grandmother’s fabrics. It’s awesome seeing how much work goes into quilting and how relaxing it can be at the same time. The Fourth of July design looks amazing already, can’t wait to see it finished!
